Melyssa Barrett started Kwanzaa Every Day to continue the work of her late husband, Peter Barrett, who had a mission to inspire everyone to live the Kwanzaa principles no matter what the season. For years, she and Peter hosted one of the largest in-home Kwanzaa celebrations in northern California, and now Melyssa speaks at churches, sororities, and community events about the power of the Kwanzaa principles. Her dream with Kwanzaa Every Day is to create a true movement, where people all across the world change their lives and inspire those around them to change as well.
Some days it seems like all we see in our world is a divided and disempowered community. But I believe it doesn’t have to be like this. I believe that if we get back to the core of who we are as individuals and as a people, we can reconnect with our God-given power. And we can work together to build up rather than tear down. That’s why I created Kwanzaa Every Day. I want to highlight tools and activities you need to celebrate our shared culture that so rich in meaning. And ultimately, you’ll be empowered to improve your life and achieve every dream you set your mind to. Doesn’t this sound like a world you want to live in? Me, too. Thank you for joining me on this journey!
